Hunter 216

Our fleet of Hunter 216 sportboats are the perfect combination of speed, stability, comfort, and ease of handling to make learning to sail a breeze. They feature full 14ft cockpits, a small jib and high-aspect mainsail riding on backstayless B&R Mast. The Hunter's are a joy to sail for both children and adults and provide the performance and comfort of even the most demanding sailors - so much so that these same boats are the newest additions the the massive training fleets at the US Naval Academy and the Bitter End Yacht Club. Not only are out Hunter 216's great performers, they are also some of the safest boats afloat, with their internal positive flotation built into the hull layup, creating boat that is fully unsinkable even if holed or cut in half. The Hunter 216's are used in our Intro to Sailing and Basic Sailing courses.

Beneteau 411

After mastering small boat sailing aboard the Hunters, students in our advanced Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Preparation courses step aboard a our 42' Beneteau sloop. At twice the length and over twice the sail area the Beneteau gives students the opportunity to apply their newfound skills aboard a completely different type of vessel and see how big boat sailing is so intricately related to small boat sailing. Aboard the larger vessel students learn to steer with a wheel, use a diesel engine, dock under power, use foller furling, electronics and understand how size and weight affects vessels of all type.

Our Fleet

Students learn the basics aboard a number 21' Hunter Marine daysailers then move up to a 42' French built Beneteau sloop to master navigation, piloting and passagemaking. We have carefully chosen our vessels to give students a wide range of experience on both sailing dinghies as well as bluewater keelboats. This variety in teaching platforms affords us the best of both worlds in sailing education - small vessels are used to teach sail trim and boat handling while larger vessels are used to teach helmsmanship, marine systems and navigation.
