FAQ's


Where do we sail?

Generally we can sail either north or south in the Hudson River and New York harbor. Travelling south we sail past the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge. Sailing north we reach the lush foliage of the Palisade Mountains past the George Washington bridge and Fort Tryon.


What kind of boat will we sail on?

You will be sailing aboard Golightly, a modern 42' French built sloop with loads of room on deck to sprawl out and get comfortable. There is a full galley down below with refridgeration, stove/oven, and cutlery for any food/drink preparation you may need. The boat is equipped with the latest in state of the art navigation and safety equipment and meets all federal, state and international requirements as a Class A offshore vessel. She has sailed the Atlantic twice!


How many people can you accomodate?

On our smaller vessel charters we can accomodate up to six guests. If your party is larger than six please contact us and we can arrange for a larger vessel.


What should I wear?

Sailing is a very casual sport and you should dress accordingly. You will generally not get wet aboard, but it tends to be a few degrees cooler out on the water so bring a coat or windbreaker.


What kind of shoes do I need?

Black soled shoes damage the decks and you may be asked by your captain to remove them. Please wear light soled shoes or go barefoot and feel the vibrations of the boat beneath your feet! Please no heels.


Can you provide catering?

Yes we work with a number of wonderful caterers throughout the city. Let us know exactly what you are looking for and we can be sure to have it aboard at the time of your sail.


Is it safe? Will the boat tip over?

You will be sailing aboard a very large comfortable modern sailboat that bar a massive hurricane will remain upright in even the stiffest of breeze. The vessel is equipped to the latest state, federal and international safety standards, and your Coast Guard licensed captain and crew are also expertly trained to provide you with an amazing experience that is both exciting and safe. Is there a minimum or maximum age?

There is no maximum age, howver we do ask that all guest be at least 2 years of age.


May we bring our own food and drinks?

By all means. We are delighted when our guest bring their own!


What if it rains?

This is our number one most frequently asked question. Just as you wouldn't, we don't like to sail in bad weather, and because of this we have one of the most lenient rain/weather policies in the business. If you are not happy with the weather due to rain/storms we will simply reschedule to a mutually agreeable date.


Can I get some sailing instruction on my sail?

Of course! We have some of the best sailing instructors in the industry and we would love to show you the ropes. Please mention this when booking your sail so we can be sure to accomodate you.


Can I help sail the boat?

Yes. We love guest who help out by handling lines, hoisting the sails, and even steering the boat. Just ask your captain and he will be happy to hand over the helm.


Is there space onboard to have a little privacy from the crew?

Yes. We completely understand your desire for privacy on a romantic sail. There is plenty of room to sneak a kiss on the fordeck, and there are three spacious cabins below deck for complete privacy.


How long can we sail?

As long as you like. We have a two hour minimum on all sails but no maximum. Charter the boat for a few hours or a few days.


Will I get seasick?

No, we have never had a customer get sick aboard our any boat in New York City. We don't go out in bad weather so it is always smooth sailing.


What is your sailing season in New York?

We sail New York City from mid April - November weather permitting.
